Joint angle and delay estimation for DS-CDMA with application to reduced dimension space-time RAKE receivers

چکیده
In this paper, we propose an algorithm for joint estimation of the angle of arrival (AOA) and delay of each dominant multipath for the desired user for use in a reduced dimension space-time RAKE receiver for DS-CDMA communications that is \near-far" resistant. After we estimate the desired spatio-frequency signal vector, we propose the 2D unitary ESPRIT algorithm as our estimator which provides closed-form as well as automatically paired AOA-delay estimates. We e ectively have a single snapshot of 2D data and thus require 2D smoothing for extracting multiple snapshots. The comparative performance of two 2D smoothing schemes, pre-eigenanalysis and post-eigenanalysis 2D smoothing, is discussed. The space-time data model for the IS-95 uplink is presented. The performance of a reduced dimension space-time RAKE receiver for the IS-95 uplink using the AOA-delay estimates is assessed through MonteCarlo simulations.

Joint Closed-Loop Power Control and Base Station Assignment for DS-CDMA Receiver in Multipath Fading Channel with Adaptive Beamforming Method
In this paper, we propose smart step closed-loop power control (SSPC) algorithm and base station assignment based on minimizing the transmitter power (BSAMTP) technique in a direct sequence-code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) receiver in the presence of frequency-selective Rayleigh fading. This receiver consists of three stages. In the first stage, with conjugate gradient (CG) adaptive ...
متن کاملReducing dynamic power consumption in next generation DS-CDMA a mobile communication receivers - Application-Specific Systems, Architectures, and Processors, 2003. Proceedings. IEEE International
Reduction of the power consumption in portable wireless receivers is an important consideration for next-generation cellular systems specified by standards such as the UMTS, IMT2000. This paper explores the architectural design-space and methodologies for reducing the dynamic power dissipation in the Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) downlink RAKE receiver. Starting with a...
متن کاملHigh Performance Broadband DS-CDMA via Carrier Interferometry Chip Shaping
Conventional DS-CDMA systems employ a RAKE receiver in an attempt to make full use of the signal energy scattered in the time domain; however, the multipath effect causes a loss of orthogonality which degrades RAKE receiver performances. The literature on multi-carrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) has shown that receivers employing frequency diversity (in an effort to make full use of energy spread in the fr...
متن کاملRake Reception with Maximal-ratio and Equal-gain Combining for Ds-cdma Systems in Nakagami Fading
We study coherent binary direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems operating over frequency-selective Nakagami fading channels. In particular a performance comparison between maximal-ratio combining (MRC) and equal-gain combining (EGC) RAKE receivers is considered. For interference limited systems, perfect MRC RAKE receivers can accommodate about 5m=(5m ? 1) more users tha...
متن کاملComparison of downlink transmit diversity schemes for RAKE and SINR maximizing receivers
In DS-CDMA communications, the conventional receiver is the RAKE receiver. In the downlink (base station to mobile) signalling with celldependent scrambling, orthogonal codes and a common channel for all the users, this receiver does not maximize the Signal-to-Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR) at its output. Another receiver, with the same structure as the RAKE receiver, is suitable for down...
